Congratulations to Dan Bosley
Greg Roach called this one even before the November elections. I agreed with him, even though others told me how full of crap I was.
But Andy Etman scooped me on the news that our longtime Representative in General Court and North Adams native son Daniel Bosley has accepted a position with the Patrick Administration as economic development advisor. Makes a ton and a half of sense. Dan's chairmanship of the JCED gives him a uniquely accurate picture of the economic development needs of the Commonwealth; he was an early adopter of the Patrick vision, and he's certainly spent enough time with the Guv-To-Be to ensure that they can see eye-to-eye on enough issues to make the whole thing work.
Congratulations, Mr. Bosley. Welcome to the Excecutive Branch. Your invitation to speak at a Rotary Club meeting still stands.
Sooo....special election anyone? I'm pretty sure most everyone here in the Northern Berkshire Blogging Club and Chowder Society knows who I think would be the best choice for our newest rep. Some hints: she swept the city and towns of the 1st Berkshire District in the Democratic Primary back in September. And she has a blog.
So, when does this all go down? First, they (whoever they are) have to call the special election. MGL 53.10 says: "If there is a special election to fill the office of senator or representative in congress, all certificates of nomination and nomination papers shall be filed on or before the sixth Tuesday preceding the day of such election", and this Special Election info from the Secretary of the Commonwealth's office says that special primaries happen four weeks before special elections. That leaves 2 weeks between the filing of nomination papers and the primary, then four weeks of the one-on-one campaign.
This is great news for North Adams, for Dan Bosley, and for the local blogosphere. Me, Wes, Andy, Jack, and Greg, along with Da Snoop, Chris, and the POD will be happy to bring you the running commentary and inside scoop on the race for the new face in the State House. Stay tuned!

Hey thanks for including me Ross, I've gotta toss my support, that and $3.25 will get you a cup of coffee at the Cup & Saucer, to the Mayor. I think if he were to run it would be a no-brainer though I doubt he will. After that I look to someone from the Adams area to fill the void.
Gailanne has contacted me and I heard that Marge Ware is contacting supporters from her Senate race. I don't think the Mayor has any interest in State Rep---how about speculating on whether the Bozman will re-locate---his daughter is now in college-and thanks for including in your blogging politicos-- chbpod
Not to self promote, but look at the time stamps on the various blog posts regarding Dan. Who got the scoop? It wasn't Andy.
Actually it was Arpee in Andy's comments. The AP posted the story during the 7 o'Clock hour.
CJT raises an interesting point - that is if Gail should win the seat--- who is elected by the Council to the Council vacancy---there is no rule requiring it to be the person who finished tenth---all though that has been somewhat customary--- it has not always been followed--sometimes not even someone who ran in the previous Council election---so Andy?? where did you finish????--chbpod
uh.....10th, 131 votes behind cjtrem....
Haahaahaa, you're a funny guy, Chris.....
I realize that....back atcha....
So Snoop--this "someone from the Adams area" was Ed MacDonald? I think we sorted of hooted down the idea that he'd have much of a chance last month.
A letter? Am I missing something?
Besides, the whole empty-seat-on-the-council idea isn't applicable if Margie Ware wins...
Ross is correct-- no empty seat on the Council if BOTH Gail and Dick run for the State Rep's seat-----and Eddie and Zelazo---are right out--- no matter what---chbpod
The "letter" that CJTrem is referring to corresponds to the Council rules about filling a vacancy-- any interested party is asked to send a letter to the Council expressing their interest--and credentials and that the night of the vote each applicant will have 2 minutes to publically address the Council--- I think that that was the "letter" to which CJTrem was referring----chbpod
No Ross I wasn't thinking of McDonald - too many troubles in Adams. I was thinking Solari or maybe Bill Donovan.
Donovan?? no way----he never ran very well in North Adams anyway--- and I don't think he'd be that interested-- and Solari??? no way he's got enough problems---Joe Solomon has apparently announced and that will effectively carve up the Adams vote--even if it prompts a higher turn out--chbpod
Assumptions-- we have been operating under the assumption that if the new State Rep is a member of the City Council-- that that will create a vacancy on the City Counicl-- one of my Council colleagues isn;t so sure---- I don;t remember seeing any requirement that a state rep-- must resign any other elective office------logistically from the Berkshire- that would be difficult-- but could be done- I guess-- chbpod
don't know if the situation you describe is accurate, cjtrem, but you're right in saying if it happened it was capuano. he's the only guy in the delegation who was a mayor. he was mayor of somerville. he may have stayed on because of overlapping municipal/federal cycles.
